                   A Choice: Poverty or Prosperity

" I hated poverty. Poverty is more of a choice than anything else, and I can change that (poverty). It depends upon how hard I want to work, and I decided that I would change it."

                                                           Dr. Ben Carson

The only person stopping  you from making an achievement and changing the way you live it's yourself. The only person that can change your lifestyle is yourself. Believe it or not you are your worse enemy. You are the only person in control about your life. It doesn't matter where you come from, if your parents were rich or poor. If you have a dream or goal you should presumed until you accomplish it.

                        " Enthusiasm makes the difference."

                                                  Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

Achieving things is not all about obtaining them but about how much you actually want it. In many occasions on people make decisions based on other people dreams. For example to make their parents proud because their parents want them to be doctors or lawyers but in reality some of these kids don't want to grow up to become doctors. They might maybe be interested in music or art and the only thing that will get them there is the enthusiasm they have. You are able to accomplish anything you want in life. From the smallest thing to the biggest thing we have. Almost every student that has A's and B's in school is because they put the effort and enthusiasm to try to succeed unlike a person who might have D's and F's. They feel no motivation or push to try to make something better out of themselves. That's why you need motivation and determination to be able to succeed and make the best out of your goals.

" I wasn't trying to eave a legacy. I was trying to do what was right."

Dean Smith

Wining is not all that important. For Smith having his players in the right path was much more important. If you have so many wins in a game and all of your players have no future or success after playing what accomplishment have you really done? Smith was able to walk away knowing that not only he made many wins for his team but he made a change among them. He was able to give them a future and guide them through the right path. Most people would have only cared about being the best in the game and not caring about what they had to do to get there. But at the end of the day what do all those trophy's mean when you have nobody to share them with. Nobody that will look up to you because you have made a change in the players life's.
                                     Psychologists

Duties and Responsibilities:Psychologists study cognitive, emotional, and social processes and human behavior by observing, interpreting, and recording how people relate to one another and their environments. Some psychologists work independently, conducting research or working with patients. Others work as part of a healthcare team, collaborating with physicians and social workers or in school settings, working with students, teachers, parents, and other educators. Those in private practice often work evenings and weekends to accommodate clients.

Salary: $38,720- $110,880

Education:Although psychologists typically need a doctoral degree or specialist degree in psychology, a master’s degree is sufficient for some positions. Practicing psychologists also need a license or certification. Psychologists can complete a Ph.D. in psychology or a Doctor of Psychology degree. A Ph.D. in psychology is a research degree that culminates in a comprehensive exam and a dissertation based on original research. In clinical, counseling, school, or health service settings, students usually complete a 1-year internship as part of the doctoral program.

Reflection: Being a psychologists has always interest me. That's part of my minor major that I want to do. Working with people and understanding what might be wrong with them can also help me and many others. This education field is important because you are studying how the brain works and how you can help those are people to overcome any fear or problem that they might have. But my main goal is to help others specially teenagers.

Student Success Statement             " It's not about how to achieve your dreams. It's about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma (destiny, fortune, good luck) will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you."

                                                 Dr. Randy Pausch

Sometimes just wishing upon something and trying to get to your dream regardless of whoever you step on is not the solution. If you want to achieve those goals that you have planed never try and push other people out of your way to get to that goal. Eventually everything you have done good or bad will come back. That's the reason you should live the right way and karma will take care of the rest because you never once hurt someone to get to where you are. Everything you did was done step by step and in a good will. You always need to keep in mind that sneaky thing don't last very long, things you took a short time in creating and building will crumble down faster than the ones that you took more time in and where much more passion with.
                 Ear, Nose and Throat
                        (ENT) Doctor

Duties and Responsibilities: Physicians specializing in otolaryngology are called otolaryngologists or "ENT doctors" and often treat children with persistent ear, nose, and throat conditions to include surgery. Adult patients often seek treatment from an otolaryngologist for sinus infections, age-related hearing loss, and cancers of these regions.

Salary: $184,650-$368,777

Education:Otolaryngologists are physicians who, in the United States, complete at least five years of surgical residency training. This is composed of one year in general surgical training and four years in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. (In the past it varied between two and three years of each.) In Canada, practitioners complete a five-year residency training after medical school. Following residency training, some otolaryngologists complete an advanced subspecialty fellowship where training can be 1–2 years in duration. In the United States and Canada, otolaryngology is one of the most competitive specialties in medicine in which to obtain a residency position following medical school.

Reflection:   Being a ENT Doctor is not something I think I would enjoy doing. Dealing with the ears and nose seems like the nasty parts of the body. Maybe they are not but if it's not my nose or ears I wouldn't like to be looking into other peoples. The throat might be something I would like to help others with since I sometimes have pains that I would like to know what might work for me. But in average I wouldn't like to study in this career.

              Electrocardiograph Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:  Electrocardiogram Technicians operate equipment that records and measures heart activity. These measurements are used to assist cardiologists and other physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular problems. An EKG technician first obtains a patient’s medical history and medication use. Then they prepare a patient by attaching electrodes to the chest, arms, and legs. These electrodes will measure trace electrical impulses transmitted by the heart in order to obtain a printout that can be used by the physician.

Salary: $25,998-$44,062

Education: Individuals interested in a career as an EKG technician must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Most people entering this profession receive on-the-job training under the supervision of an experienced EKG technician that lasts 3 to 6 months. There are longer programs offered through community colleges that offer an associate’s degree and board certification. Students graduating these programs usually command higher pay and are placed in supervisory roles. Most employers prefer to train people who are already in a health-related field, such as a nurse aid or physician assistant.

Reflection:  This job seems fascinating but I don't see myself doing working. The salary is not what I would like to get paid.

                      Student Success Statement

"Intelligence plus character, that is the goal of true education"

                           M.L. King Jr.

Having an education is always a very important thing for a person to have. But education itself is not all. Whenever a person is well educated it's good for that person to help others that might need help. What's good about having a good education when you don't use it to better other people. In my career the reason why I'm choosing to major in politics and psychology is not just because I enjoy those topics but because my main goal is to use what I learn to better myself and others.  That's why having intelligence and character is what a real education is.

                                Registered Dietitian

Duties and Responsibilities: A registered dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who has met the minimum academic and professional requirements to qualify for the credential "RD." In addition to RD credentialing, many states have regulatory laws for dietitians and nutrition practitioners. State requirements frequently are met through the same education and training required to become an RD.

Salary:$42,000- $86,000

Education:  Earned a bachelor's degree with course work approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. Coursework typically includes food and nutrition sciences, foodservice systems management, business, economics, computer science, sociology, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and chemistry. Completed an accredited, supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency or foodservice corporation. Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Completes continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.

Reflection:  Being a dietitian might not only help other but it can also help me. Like how if you want to live for a long time the proper way to maintain yourself healthy is having a good diet and exercising. This career is about learning what is good for you to eat and to stay healthy and thats something I would be interested in learning. It doesn't seem like a stressful job where I wouldn't want to come into work. It seems interesting because everyday I would deal with patients that have different diets.
