Western Medicine Doctor

Duties and Responsibilities: the term used to describe the treatment of medical conditions with medications, by doctors, nurses and other conventional healthcare providers who employ methods developed according to Western medical and scientific traditions. Other names for Western medicine include traditional medicine or allopathic medicine. It differs from Eastern, or alternative, medicine, in its approach to treatment, which relies heavily upon industrially produced medications and a strict adherence to the formal scientific process. Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine see patients, prescribe medications, perform surgeries, and deliver babies in hospitals, medical centers, and offices across the United States and overseas.

Education:Their basic and clinical medical training, Osteopathic physicians receive training in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. That is, in addition to their basic science and clinical training, DOs are additionally able to use their hands to diagnose and treat injury and illness and encourage the body's natural tendency toward good health. OMM enables physicians to treat their patients with the appropriate combination of medical procedures, medication, AND manipulation. Reflection: Studying in this type of field seems important. Being able to study the person to see what might be wrong with them so you can be able to give them the medication they need seems like I job I would love to do. 

                            Dental Assistant


Duties and Responsibilities: Dental Assistant is the operator in providing more efficient dental treatment, by preparing the patient for treatment, sterilizing instruments, passing instruments during the procedure, holding suction devices, exposing dental radiographs, taking impressions, and fabricating provisional crowns. Dental operators can focus more time on the procedure; the dental assistant then effectively becomes the operator's extra hands.


Salary: $23,550-$47,580


Education:In some states, dental assistants can work in the field without a college degree, while in other states, dental assistants must be licensed or registered.Dental assistants are required to meet the minimum certification to work in the field.The Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association accredits dental assisting school programs, of which there are over 200 in the United States. To become a Certified Dental Assistant dental assistants must take the  Dental Assisting National Board CDA examination after they have completed an accredited dental assisting program, or have at least two years of on-the-job training as a dental assistant. Some dentists are willing to pay a dental assistant-in-training that has a good attitude and work ethic.

Reflection: In my personal view i think that becoming a dental assistant is not that difficult. I know a few people who work as dental assistants and including a family member of mine also works in a dentist office but that wouldn't be a job i would like to do for the rest of my life. The job is easy and not difficult but the pay is not so good. I wouldn't like to have and check peoples mouths for a living. It doesn't seem as important in my personal view that's why i couldn't like or consider myself working as a dental assistant. 

                Auricular Therapy

Duties and Responsibilities: An acupuncture technician, often called an acupuncture detoxification specialist, performs an acupuncture treatment on five points of the ear. In traditional Chinese medicine, all illnesses are believed to be driven by an energy imbalance in the body. Acupuncture uses needles to balance the energy of the body's pathways. While it can take 3-4 years for an aspiring acupuncturist to learn a wide variety of applications, an acupuncture technician is trained for 100 hours or less in just auricular acupuncture.

Salary: $38,000 – $137,000

Education: To become an acupuncture technician, you will need to participate in a program certified by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association. This program will teach you the five basic ear points of auricular acupuncture. In a NADA program, you'll take a 30-hour didactic course and spend 40 hours practicing your skills in a clinic. You should have a master's degree or higher and share these traits: Trustworthy: You are known for your personal integrity and honesty. Independent: You enjoy flying solo and doing things your own way. Detail Oriented: You pay close attention to all the little details.

Reflection: Being an Auricular Therapy doesn't interest me. Having to look into people ears and using needles just freaks me out and makes me not want to do it. I also took the test that they have online to see if that major is really for me but unfortunately I scored low so I don’t think I would be good for this career. Situations where you have to poke into something with a needle just isn't for me , it freaks me out.
